Face Detectives
Today we notice eyes, nose, and mouth, then look at blinking, gentle sniffing, and a small smile. Exploration stays on the poster and in relaxed facial movements; fingers and objects never enter facial openings.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing to the poster, blinking once, making one expression, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, ask for memorisation, or require a smile.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Notice EYES 眼睛, NOSE 鼻子, and MOUTH 嘴巴, then follow BLINK 眨眨眼, SNIFF 轻轻闻, and SMILE 微微笑. Finish by counting only the bottom row: one nose, two eyes, and three mouths.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 眼睛, 鼻子, 嘴巴, 眨眨眼, 轻轻闻, and 微微笑.
- English: meet
eyes,nose,mouth,blink,sniff, andsmile. - Body awareness: notice three facial parts and simple actions without needing a body-function explanation.
- Early math: touch and count one nose, two eyes, and three mouths along the bottom.
- Life skills: use a point, word, or stop signal to tell a familiar adult when the face feels uncomfortable.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A calm place with clean air.
No mirror, food, scented item, cotton swab, or other teaching object is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
- “脸上有两只眼睛。”
- “鼻子在脸的中间。”
- “这是一张放松的嘴巴。”
- “眼睛可以眨一眨，鼻子可以在清新空气里轻轻闻。”
- “微微笑只是一个选择，不笑也可以。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “眼睛在哪里？”
- “哪张图在眨眼？”
- “你想指鼻子，还是嘴巴？”
If Amara points towards her own face, keep the finger beside the face rather than touching an eyeball, nostril, or the inside of the mouth.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Say one short chunk at a time. Looking or saying one word is enough; copying every action is not required.
3. Early Math: One Nose, Two Eyes, Three Mouths
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one nose once:
one nose. - Touch the two eyes one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three mouths one at a time:
one, two, three.
Count each complete icon once. Do not count nostrils, eyelashes, teeth, or tongues, and do not test numeral recognition.
4. Safe Movement: Blink, Sniff, Relax
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Choose one:
- Close and open the eyes naturally once:
Blink. - Keep hands by the body and breathe normally in clean air:
Sniff. - Keep any comfortable expression while the adult says, “Your face is resting.”
Face Safety
Do not poke or rub eyes, place fingers or objects in nostrils or the mouth, or offer a strong smell to sniff. Stop and let an adult respond if an eye, nose, or mouth hurts, looks swollen or red, contains a foreign object, or breathing feels difficult.
5. Life Skill: Show Where It Hurts
Practise only while comfortable:
- Point to one facial part on the poster and say its name.
- Say
Stop. - Look towards a familiar adult and point to the poster to request help.
Do not create discomfort for practice.
