My Family & Me
My Family & Me
Today we notice me, a familiar grown-up, and another child. Families can include different people, live in different places, and care for one another in different ways; the poster does not assign fixed mother or father roles.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, waving, or saying one name or word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, quiz family membership, or ask about anyone she has not chosen to mention.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Notice ME 我, GROWN-UP 熟悉的大人, and CHILD 小朋友, then follow POINT 指一指, WAVE 挥挥手, and TOGETHER 在一起. Finish by counting only the bottom row: one familiar grown-up, two children, and three hearts.
Goals
- English: meet
me,grown-up,child,point,wave, andtogether. - Social-emotional learning: understand that family members and ways of being together can differ.
- Early math: touch and count one grown-up, two children, and three hearts along the bottom.
- Life skills: recognise a real familiar grown-up who provides care and respond in a comfortable way.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A calm place to look at the picture.
No family photo, doll, person card, or other teaching object is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “哪一个小朋友在说‘我’?”
- “熟悉的大人在哪里?”
- “你想指一指,还是挥挥手?”
Use the names or family words Amara naturally hears, but do not assign a relationship for her.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
| English | Meaning | Picture or action response |
|---|---|---|
me | 我 | Point to the child saying “me” or touch clothing gently |
grown-up | 熟悉的大人 | Point to the grown-up on the poster |
child | 小朋友 | Point to a child on the poster |
point | 指一指 | Choose one person picture |
wave | 挥挥手 | Make one small wave |
together | 在一起 | Look at the card containing a varied group |
Model:
Me.A familiar grown-up.A child.Wave together.
Say one short chunk at a time. Pointing, looking towards a real familiar grown-up, or saying one name all count.
3. Early Math: One Grown-Up, Two Children, Three Hearts
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one grown-up once:
one grown-up. - Touch the two children one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three hearts one at a time:
one, two, three.
These are counting icons, not a rule about how many people a family should have. Count each complete icon once rather than hands, feet, or clothing patterns.
4. Safe Movement: Point or Wave
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Choose one action:
- Keep the finger just in front of the poster rather than poking the screen:
Point. - Keep the arm near the body and make a gentle wave:
Wave. - Sit or stand beside a familiar grown-up:
Together.
People and Movement Safety
A familiar grown-up is someone Amara already knows who provides care or whom her caregiver has confirmed is safe—not a stranger. Do not require approaching, hugging, kissing, or touching anyone. Leave room when pointing or waving.
5. Everyday Life: Use One Familiar Name
During an ordinary shared moment, the adult describes:
- “我是我,你是你,我们在一起。”
- Use one genuinely applicable name or family word.
Here is a familiar grown-up.
Amara may say one name or word, point, or simply look. An absent person, separate household, or different family structure does not need to be explained or compared.
Bedtime Recall
Me, grown-up, or child?- “你喜欢指一指,还是挥挥手?”
