Three Colours
Three Colours
Today we look at red, yellow, and blue, then use look, point, and match to notice the same colour. The goal is noticing and choosing, not producing a tested colour name.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, moving a finger between two same-colour pictures, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, require accurate naming, or repeatedly correct a colour response.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Notice RED 红色, YELLOW 黄色, and BLUE 蓝色, then follow LOOK 看一看, POINT 指一指, and MATCH 配一配. Finish by counting only the bottom row: one red apple, two yellow ducks, and three blue balls.
Goals
- English: meet
red, yellow, blue, look, point, andmatch. - Colour awareness: notice three clear colour fields and pair two pictures with the same colour.
- Early math: touch and count one apple, two ducks, and three balls along the bottom.
- Life skills: hear one natural colour description in everyday life without being quizzed.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A comfortably lit place without screen glare.
No paint, marker, balloon, loose sorting item, or other teaching object is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “你先看到了哪一种颜色?”
- “你想指红色、黄色还是蓝色?”
- “哪两个圆颜色一样?”
If Amara selects another card, describe its location first rather than immediately saying that it is wrong.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
| English | Meaning | Picture response |
|---|---|---|
red | 红色 | Point to the large red circle |
yellow | 黄色 | Point to the large yellow circle |
blue | 蓝色 | Point to the large blue circle |
look | 看一看 | Look across the three colours |
point | 指一指 | Choose one colour field |
match | 配一配 | Move a finger between one same-colour pair |
Model:
Red. Yellow. Blue.Look and point.Match the colours.
Say one short chunk at a time. Looking, pointing, or producing part of a word is enough.
3. Early Math: One Red Apple, Two Yellow Ducks, Three Blue Balls
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one red apple once:
one apple. - Touch the two yellow ducks one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three blue balls one at a time:
one, two, three.
Count each complete object once. Do not count the apple leaf, duck feet, or lines on a ball, and do not test numeral recognition.
4. Picture Actions: Look, Point, Match
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Keep the finger just in front of the poster or touch the screen gently:
Look: quietly notice the three large colour fields.Point: choose one without needing to name it.Match: move from one circle to another of the same colour.- Relax the hands and finish.
Colour-Activity Safety
Do not use swallowable sorting pieces or give access to paint, permanent markers, unknown liquids, or balloons to chase or pop. Keep screen brightness comfortable. A different colour observation or name is not a vision diagnosis or measure of ability.
5. Everyday Observation: Adult Describes Once
Choose one large object that naturally appears:
- “你的上衣看起来是蓝色的。”
- “我看到一个黄色标记。”
I see red.
Describe once rather than repeatedly asking, “What colour is this?”
Bedtime Recall
Red, yellow, or blue?- “哪一对圆颜色一样?”
