Animal Sounds
Today we meet a cat, duck, and dog, then connect them with meow, quack, and woof. A sound may be copied gently or only noticed on the poster; there is no required animal impression.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, making one sound, moving the mouth, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, require memorised matches, or correct her sound effect.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Notice CAT 猫, DUCK 鸭子, and DOG 狗, then connect them with MEOW 喵喵, QUACK 嘎嘎, and WOOF 汪汪. Finish by counting only the bottom row: one dog, two ducks, and three cats.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 猫, 鸭子, 狗, 喵喵, 嘎嘎, and 汪汪.
- English: meet
cat,duck,dog,meow,quack, andwoof. - Nature and language: notice that animals make different sounds and that real sounds can vary.
- Early math: touch and count one dog, two ducks, and three cats along the bottom.
- Life skills: stay at a safe distance from a real animal and follow a familiar adult.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A calm place where a quiet voice will not disturb others.
No animal toy, recording, food, or other teaching object is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
- “这是一只橙色的猫。”
- “这是一只黄色的鸭子。”
- “这是一只棕色的狗。”
- “猫可能喵喵，鸭子可能嘎嘎，狗可能汪汪。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “哪一只是鸭子？”
- “谁会喵喵？”
- “你想指猫、鸭子，还是狗？”
The poster gives familiar examples rather than a rule that every individual animal always sounds the same.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Model:
A cat says meow.A duck says quack.A dog says woof.
Say one line at a time. Pointing, moving the mouth, or making an approximate sound is enough; full repetition is not required.
3. Early Math: One Dog, Two Ducks, Three Cats
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one dog once:
one dog. - Touch the two ducks one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three cats one at a time:
one, two, three.
Count each complete animal once. Do not count ears, feet, tails, or markings, and do not test numeral recognition.
4. Sound Play: Say It Once, Gently
Time: 3–5 minutes.
The adult chooses one and models at normal speaking volume:
Meow: open and close the mouth gently once.Quack: say one short sound.Woof: say one short sound.- Relax and become quiet.
Amara may choose one sound or remain silent.
Animal and Sound Safety
Do not shout near an ear or require a louder or repeated call. Never chase, grab, feed, or approach an unfamiliar animal. If a dog bark or other sound is sudden, remain beside a familiar adult.
5. Everyday Observation: Hear, Then Describe
If an animal is naturally heard during a walk or at home:
- The adult says, “我听到一声狗叫。”
I hear a dog.- If no animal is heard, return to the poster rather than searching.
Do not create practice with a sudden loud recording.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天最喜欢猫、鸭子还是狗？”
- “谁会嘎嘎？”
