Rooms at Home
Today we look at a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, then connect each room with a familiar activity: cook, sleep, and wash.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3–4 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, copying one small action, making a sound, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. The room–activity links are familiar examples, not questions she must answer correctly.

How to use it
Print in colour on portrait A4 paper with “Fit to page” selected, or show it full-screen. First point to the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Then connect cook with kitchen, sleep with bedroom, and wash with bathroom. Count only the bottom row. Amara does not need to read, memorise the pairs, visit each room, or finish every prompt.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 厨房, 卧室, 浴室, 做饭, 睡觉, and 洗澡 through pictures and familiar routines.
- English: meet
kitchen,bedroom,bathroom,cook,sleep, andwash. - Cognition: notice one simple relationship between a room and an activity.
- Early math: touch exactly one bed, two cups, and three towels in the bottom row.
- Movement: copy gentle pretend cook, sleep, and wash actions.
- Life skills: name a room during a normal adult-led home routine.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- No household object or room visit is required.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Describe one pair at a time:
- “这是厨房，大人在厨房做饭。”
- “这是卧室，晚上在卧室睡觉。”
- “这是浴室，洗澡时大人一直在旁边。”
- “家里不同房间会做不同的事情。”
Choose one or two prompts:
- “床在哪个房间？”
- “哪张图是厨房？”
- “你想先看卧室，还是浴室？”
If Amara points without speaking, expand it: “你找到浴室了。”
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes, focused on listening, pointing, and gestures.

Use short chunks:

Accept a look, point, gesture, sound, or one word. Do not require translation or a complete sentence.
3. Early Math: Bed, Cups, Towels
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom cards:
- Under 1, touch the one bed once and say
one bed. - Under 2, touch the two separate cups one at a time and say
one, two. - Under 3, touch the three separate folded towels one at a time and say
one, two, three.
Do not count furniture, food, bath water, or objects in the upper rooms. The aim is one touch for one whole pictured object, not numeral recognition.
4. Movement: Cook, Sleep, Wash
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move away from the screen:
Cook— make one slow stirring circle with an empty hand.Sleep— rest the cheek on joined hands.Wash— gently rub one forearm.Stop— relax both hands.
These are pretend actions only. There is no need to enter the kitchen or bathroom or use an object.
5. Everyday Connection: Name the Room
Time: 3–5 minutes during a routine that is already happening.
Use one simple comment:
- “我们到卧室了。”
This is the bedroom.- “厨房由大人做饭。”
Wash with an adult.
The adult leads the routine and handles appliances, hot food, water, medicines, and cleaning products.
Home-Room Safety
The poster does not give a toddler permission to enter or use a room alone. Adults control kitchen appliances, hot and sharp items, bath water, medicines, cleaning products, doors, and windows. Stay within arm's reach during bathing and use barriers or locks appropriate to the home.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天看了哪几个房间？”
- “睡觉的床在哪里？”

Keep it conversational. Amara may answer with a point, gesture, sound, or one word.
