Sit, Stand & Clap
Sit, Stand & Clap
Today we meet sit, stand, and clap, supported by slow, steady, and stop. One comfortable movement is enough; rapid repeated sit-to-stand exercise is not the goal.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 3 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, copying part of a movement, clapping once, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, require a memorised sequence, or expect every action.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Notice SIT 坐下, STAND 站起, and CLAP 拍手, then follow SLOW 慢慢来, STEADY 站稳, and STOP 停下来. Finish by counting only the bottom row: one chair, two feet, and three hands.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 坐下, 站起, 拍手, 慢慢来, 站稳, and 停下来.
- English: meet
sit, stand, clap, slow, steady, andstop. - Gross motor skills: notice a change in body position and choose one slow action.
- Early math: touch and count one chair, two feet, and three hands along the bottom.
- Life skills: pause after a stop cue and check that the body is steady.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A dry, clear, non-slip floor area.
No extra chair, stool, music, or action card is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
- “小朋友坐在稳稳的矮椅子上。”
- “小朋友双脚落地,站起来了。”
- “两只手在胸前轻轻拍一下。”
- “动作慢慢来,先站稳,听到停就停下来。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “哪张图是坐下?”
- “谁站稳了?”
- “你想指坐、站,还是拍手?”
Pointing does not need to be followed by standing or sitting.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
| English | Meaning | Picture or action response |
|---|---|---|
sit | 坐下 | Point to the seated child |
stand | 站起 | Point to the standing child |
clap | 拍手 | Touch hands gently once or point |
slow | 慢慢来 | Move one palm slowly |
steady | 站稳 | Keep feet still and balance |
stop | 停下来 | End the movement |
Model:
Sit or stand?Clap once.Slow and steady.Stop.
Say one short chunk at a time. Looking, pointing, or completing one movement is enough.
3. Early Math: One Chair, Two Feet, Three Hands
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one chair once:
one chair. - Touch the two feet one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three hands one at a time:
one, two, three.
The middle card shows two individual feet, not two pairs. Count each complete icon once rather than toes, fingers, or chair legs.
4. Safe Movement: Choose Only One
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move away from the screen and choose one:
- If already seated, the adult labels
Sitwithout another transition. - If already standing steadily, the adult labels
Stand. - Keep feet still and clap gently once at chest height:
Clap. - Become still together on
Stop.
Sit-to-Stand and Clapping Safety
Use only a flat floor or a low stable chair already in normal use, with an adult close. Never jump from a bed, sofa, table, or chair, hold unstable furniture, or repeat sit-to-stand rapidly. Clap away from ears and other people's faces.
5. Life Skill: Stop and Become Steady
During an ordinary transition:
- The adult says, “慢慢来,先站稳。”
- Amara may stop her feet, hold a familiar adult, or remain where she is.
- Once stable, say
All steady.
Stopping safely matters more than completing a sequence.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天指了坐下、站起还是拍手?”
- “动作前要慢慢来还是快快来?”
Sit, stand, or clap?- “听到 stop 可以做什么?”
