Tap, Tap, Pause
Tap, Tap, Pause
Today we notice clap, tap, and pause, then feel one beat, two beats, and rest through quiet empty-hand movements.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 5 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, making one tap, resting, saying one word, approximating, or refusing all count. Do not test rhythm, demand synchronisation, or repeat until a pattern is exact.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture. Notice CLAP 拍拍手, TAP 轻轻拍, and PAUSE 停一停, then compare one beat, two beats, and rest. Finish with one drum picture, two hands, and three notes; the drum is for looking only.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 拍拍手, 轻轻拍, 停一停, 一拍, 两拍, and 休息.
- English: meet
clap, tap, pause, one beat, two beats, andrest. - Early math: count one drum, two hands, and three notes.
- Movement: make one quiet knee tap and stop comfortably.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above.
- A stable sitting place with empty hands.
No drum, drumstick, shaker, music recording, or other prop is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
- “小手可以轻轻拍一下。”
- “这里是两拍。”
- “停一停,也可以休息。”
Amara may only watch. Do not position her hands or ask her to keep a beat.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Clap gently.Tap once.Two taps.Pause and rest.
Model one short phrase, then wait. A partial movement or no movement is valid.
3. Early Math: One Drum, Two Hands, Three Notes
Time: 3–5 minutes.
- Touch the one drum once.
- Touch the two hands one at a time.
- Touch the three notes one at a time.
Do not count fingers, drum patterns, note stems, or printed numerals.
4. Safe Movement: Empty Hands on Knees
Time: 3–5 minutes.
- Sit steadily with empty hands.
- Tap one knee once, very gently.
- If Amara chooses, tap twice with a comfortable pause.
- Rest both hands and finish.
Rhythm and Hearing Safety
Use only empty hands on the child's own knees. Do not use the pictured drum, drumsticks, hard surfaces, loud claps, or tapping near ears. Do not require matching the adult's timing. Stop immediately if Amara covers her ears, turns away, or refuses.
5. Everyday Connection
During a natural quiet moment, label one soft sound: one tap, then rest. Do not turn tables, doors, or utensils into percussion instruments.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天喜欢一拍、两拍还是休息?”
Tap or pause?- “小手在哪里轻轻拍?”
