Where Is It Happening?
Today we connect play, rest, and buying with pictures of a park, home, and shop. We practise answering where and make it clear that an adult remains responsible for outings and purchases.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 5 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, saying one place word, moving, or declining all count. A scene may allow more than one sensible match; fixed sentences are not required, and buying is not presented as a reward or necessary experience.

How to use it
Print in colour on portrait A4 paper with “Fit to page” selected, or display it full-screen. Describe the place and action actually visible, then note that many actions can happen elsewhere too. The matching is not a single-answer test.
Goals
- Chinese: meet 公园, 家, 商店, 玩, 休息, 和大人买, and 在哪里.
- English: meet
park,home,shop,play,rest,buy with an adult, andwhere. - Cognition: use buildings, furniture, and outdoor clues to interpret a pictured place.
- Early maths: count one house, two trees, and three baskets.
- Life skills and safety: understand that a child stays near a caregiver outside and adults make purchasing and payment decisions.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- There is no need to visit a shop or prepare money, shopping bags, or products.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Describe visible clues:
- “公园里有树和长椅，孩子和大人在一起。”
- “家里有可以休息的沙发。”
- “商店有柜台，孩子靠近大人。”
Offer one prompt:
- “事情在哪里发生？”
- “哪一张像家？”
- “你想看公园、家还是商店？”
If Amara places reading at home or elsewhere, accept it: “Yes, reading can happen in different places.”
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Use Where is it happening?, At the park., At home., and At the shop with an adult. One place word is enough.
3. Early Maths: 1, 2, 3 in the Places
Time: 3–5 minutes.
- 1 house:
one house. - 2 trees: touch each and say
two trees. - 3 empty baskets: touch each and say
three baskets.
Count only the separate bottom objects, not windows, tree canopies, or woven marks. One adult model is enough.
4. Picture Matching: Where Can the Action Go?
Time: 3–5 minutes.
- Point to
PLAY 玩, thenPARK 公园. - Point to
REST 休息, thenHOME 家. - Point to
BUY WITH ADULT 和大人买, then theSHOP 商店and nearby adult. - Amara may choose another sensible place; answer, “That can work too.”
Move only a finger across the poster. Do not pretend to leave alone or handle a payment.
Outing and Purchase Safety
A toddler never goes to a park or shop alone or leaves home independently. A caregiver maintains supervision in public. Adults decide whether and what to buy and handle payment. Products and spending are not rewards required to complete an activity.
5. Everyday Observation and Life Skills
Before an outing, preview: “We go to the park together, then rest at home.” Passing a shop without entering is also language practice: “That is a shop. We are not buying today.” This teaches place words without creating purchase expectations.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天你看了哪个地方？”
- “休息可以在哪里？”
Park, home, or shop?- “去外面时谁和你在一起？”
Pointing to a place or moving close to the caregiver is a valid answer.
