Safety Week Review
Safety Week Review
Today we revisit six calm safety pictures: ask for help, keep hands off, hold hands, stop, tell an adult, and stay close.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 5 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, copying one small action, saying one word, or declining all count as meaningful responses. This is a reassuring picture review, not a rule-memory test.

How to use it
Print on portrait A4 paper with “Fit to page,” or show it full-screen. Use only the poster. Point to one card, name what the child can do, and pause. There is no need to recite all six rules or create a pretend danger.
Goals
- Chinese: hear and understand “求助、不触碰、牵手、停、告诉大人、靠近大人.”
- English: meet
help, hands off, hold hands, stop, tell, andstay close. - Early math: touch exactly one lock, two hands, and three hearts in the bottom row.
- Movement: practise one calm stop gesture while an adult stays beside the child.
- Life skill: know that asking or telling a trusted adult is always welcome.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed.
- No locks, safety devices, hazard props, or loose objects are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Choose one or two cards:
- “需要帮忙,可以找大人。”
- “先不碰,停一下。”
- “走路时可以牵手、靠近大人。”
- “不舒服或不知道怎么办,可以告诉大人。”
Ask at most one gentle prompt: “哪张图在求助?” Looking, pointing, one word, or no answer is complete participation.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
help | 求助 | Point to the adult |
hands off | 不触碰 | Hands by body |
hold hands | 牵手 | Point to joined hands |
stop | 停 | Show one open palm |
tell | 告诉大人 | Point to speaking child |
stay close | 靠近大人 | Point to child and adult |
Model one short chunk, then pause: Help, please. Stop. or Stay close. Do not ask Amara to repeat.
3. Early Math: Lock, Hands, Hearts
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom row:
- Under 1, touch the one lock once.
- Under 2, touch the two separate hands one at a time.
- Under 3, touch the three separate hearts one at a time.
Do not count people, fingers, cards, or objects in the upper rows. Numeral naming is optional.
4. Calm Movement: Stop and Stay Close
Time: 3–5 minutes in a clear indoor area.
With an adult beside Amara, take one or two slow steps, say stop, and both become still. Then stand close together. Walking, watching, stopping once, or choosing not to move are all acceptable.
5. Life Skill: Tell a Trusted Adult
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point to the TELL card and model: “你可以告诉我。” / You can tell me. Accept a point, sound, one word, hug, or moving away. Do not invent frightening scenarios or ask the child to prove that she remembers a rule.
Fear-Free Safety
Use calm, concrete language. Do not show hazards, surprise the child, threaten consequences, or quiz safety rules. Adults remain responsible for supervision and environmental safety; the poster does not transfer that responsibility to the child.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天哪张图让你觉得安心?”
Help, stop, or stay close?
One glance or no response is enough. End with: “需要时,大人会帮助你。”
