Smoke Alarm Safety
Smoke Alarm Safety
Today we notice an alarm, smoke, and an exit, then learn the adult-led response: tell an adult, go out immediately, stay outside, and never hide.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 5 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, moving toward the exit picture, saying one word, pausing, or refusing the picture talk all count. Do not create smoke, sound an alarm for this lesson, or test a memorised escape sequence.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture. Notice ALARM 警报器, SMOKE 烟雾, and EXIT 出口, then model TELL AN ADULT 告诉大人, GO OUT 到户外, and NEVER HIDE 不躲藏. Finish with one alarm, two doors, and three outdoor trees.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 警报器, 烟雾, 出口, 告诉大人, 到户外, and 不躲藏.
- English: meet
alarm, smoke, exit, tell an adult,go out, andnever hide. - Early math: count one alarm, two doors, and three outdoor trees.
- Fire safety: leave immediately with adult help, remain outside, and never return for belongings.
- Life skills: move toward a safe exit rather than hiding.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above.
- A trusted caregiver beside Amara.
Do not use smoke, candles, matches, lighters, sprays, alarm audio, or a live alarm test as teaching props.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
- “听到烟雾警报,要马上告诉大人。”
- “和大人一起立即出去,不等待。”
- “到户外以后留在外面。”
- “不躲起来,也不回去拿玩具。”
The adult is responsible for choosing the exit, helping Amara, and calling emergency services.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Alarm. Smoke. Exit.Tell an adult.Go out now.Never hide. Stay out.
One point toward the exit picture is enough; do not quiz the full sequence.
3. Early Math: One Alarm, Two Doors, Three Trees
Time: 3–5 minutes.
- Touch the one alarm once.
- Touch the two doors one at a time.
- Touch the three trees one at a time.
Counting is separate from the emergency response. Do not count alarm vents, door panels, branches, or numerals.
4. Picture Action: Point to the Exit
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Keep the body in place and point once from the alarm card to the exit card. Say, Go out and stay out. No evacuation drill is created for this activity.
Smoke-Alarm Safety
If a real smoke alarm sounds or smoke is present, do not wait to finish an activity, investigate, hide, collect belongings, or re-enter. The caregiver gets everyone outside immediately, stays outside, and contacts emergency services from safety. Never disable an alarm or create smoke to teach this page.
5. Adult Preparation
Adults maintain working alarms and a household escape plan outside this toddler lesson. Amara is not responsible for testing alarms, deciding whether smoke is dangerous, or rescuing objects or people.
Bedtime Recall
- “警报响了要躲起来吗?”
Go out and stay out.- “谁负责带你出去和求助?”
