Let's Go!
Let's Go!
Today's lesson uses a car, bus, and train to connect vehicle names with the everyday action words go, stop, and wait. Amara can point, make sounds, move, freeze, and count pictured vehicles without needing toy vehicles or reading printed words.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 4 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. A point, vehicle sound, body movement, or single word is a successful response. Go, stop, and wait are practised as playful listening cues and as part of staying close to an adult when leaving home.

How to use it
Print in colour on portrait A4 paper with “Fit to page” selected. If a printer is unavailable, show it full-screen on a tablet or computer. First find the car, bus, and train in turn. Then point to the go, stop, and wait action pictures and use the words as movement cues. Amara does not need to recognise the printed words or retell the story.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 汽车, 公交车, 火车 and 出发, 停下, 等一等, then respond with a point, sound, action, or short word.
- English: meet
car, bus, train,go,stop, andwaitthrough the picture and movement. - Early math: touch and count one car, two buses, and three trains one at a time.
- Movement: move on
go, freeze onstop, and stay beside an adult onwait. - Life skills: practise a short leaving-home routine—stop at the doorway, wait for the adult, and go together.
Materials
- The A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A small, clear, non-slip space for start-and-stop movement.
No toy vehicles, traffic-light cards, or other teaching objects are required.
1. Morning Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Let Amara explore the picture first. Follow the vehicle that catches her attention:
- “小汽车出发了,嘀嘀!”
- “公交车停下来,让大家上车。”
- “小火车等一等,然后呜呜向前开。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “小汽车在哪里?”
- “哪一辆是公交车?”
- “长长的火车在哪里?”
- “谁要出发?谁在等一等?”
If she says “车”, expand it to “对,这是一辆小汽车。”
If she only makes a train sound, respond with “呜呜,小火车要出发了。”
Today's Original Mini Story
One morning, a little car, a bus, and a train are ready to leave.
The little car says, “Beep, beep. Let's go!”
The bus stops and waits for its passengers.
The train waits too, then rolls away with a “Choo-choo!”
Everyone sets off safely, one after another.
While telling the story, invite Amara to point to each vehicle in turn or make a sound. She does not need to retell any part.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes, focused on listening, pointing, sounds, and actions.
Words
| English | Meaning | Response |
|---|---|---|
| car | 汽车 | Pretend to hold a small steering wheel |
| bus | 公交车 | Hold a wide steering wheel |
| train | 火车 | Move bent arms like train wheels |
| go | 出发、向前 | Take a few steps |
| stop | 停下 | Freeze with feet still |
| wait | 等一等 | Stand beside the adult |
Useful Chunks
Here comes a car.Here comes the bus.Here comes the train.Ready? Go!Stop here.Wait with me.
Play:
- Say
Here comes a car.and point to the car. - Say
Ready? Go!and move two or three safe steps together. - Say
Stop here.and freeze. - Say
Wait with me.and stand side by side for a short moment.
Keep the pauses brief and cheerful. Do not require translation or full-sentence repetition; the correct point, sound, or movement shows understanding.
3. Early Math: Count the Vehicles
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Touch and Count the Bottom Row
- In the counting row along the bottom, touch the one car once and say
one. - Still in the bottom row, touch the two buses one at a time and say
one, two. - Still in the bottom row, touch the three trains one at a time and say
one, two, three.
Find and Compare
- “一辆小汽车在哪里?”
- “两辆公交车在哪里?”
- “我们一列一列地点小火车。”
- “哪一组是一辆?哪一组是两辆?哪一组是三辆?”
The aim is one finger touch for one pictured item. Counting only one group is enough; Amara does not need to give each total independently.
4. Movement and Life Skills: Go, Stop, Wait
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Move in a clear space away from the screen:
- Pretend to drive a car with small steering movements.
- Pretend to drive a wide bus slowly.
- Move arms gently like train wheels and say
choo-choo. - On
Go!, take two or three steps. - On
Stop!, freeze. - On
Wait with me., return to the adult and stand together.
Connect the game to a real leaving-home routine later:
- Stop at the doorway.
- Wait beside the adult.
- Hold the adult's hand or stay within reach.
- Go together when the adult says it is time.
Travel Safety
The movement game is not permission for Amara to judge real traffic or cross independently. Near roads, platforms, car parks, lifts, and doors, an adult stays within reach and makes every safety decision.
5. Outdoor or Window Observation
During a normal trip, or from a safe window:
- Look for one car, bus, or train.
- Listen for a vehicle sound without moving closer to the road.
- Say whether the vehicle is going, stopping, or waiting.
- Finish after one observation and continue the normal trip.
If no vehicle is visible, use the A4 picture once more and let Amara choose her favourite.
Bedtime Recall
Keep it conversational rather than testing:
- “今天最喜欢哪一种车?”
- “谁会发出嘀嘀声?谁会发出呜呜声?”
Car, bus, or train?Go, stop, or wait?
Amara may answer with a point, a vehicle sound, an action, or one word.
