Tidy Up
Today we meet a toy, book, and basket, then connect pick up, put away, and all done into one simple tidying sequence. The goal is one manageable act of participation, not a judgment about neatness.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 4 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, pretending with empty hands, doing one action, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Do not test reading, require a full sentence, or expect her to tidy a whole area.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Find the toy, book, and basket along the top. Point to pick up, put away, and all done in the middle. Finish by counting one basket, two books, and three blocks along the bottom. Reading and retelling are not required.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 玩具, 书, 篮子 and 拿起来, 收起来, 完成.
- English: meet
toy,book,basket,pick up,put away, andall done. - Cognition: understand that an item can return from its place of use to a familiar home, one step at a time.
- Early math: count the one basket, two books, and three blocks pictured at the bottom.
- Movement and life skills: rehearse picking up and putting down with empty hands, then choose one real tidying action during a normal routine.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A clear space without a trip hazard.
No extra teaching object is needed. For the everyday connection, use only one familiar item that already needs to be put away; do not take out or dump items to create practice.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Begin with the top row:
- “这是一辆玩具小车。”
- “这是一本书。”
- “这是一个篮子。”
Then notice the middle:
- “小朋友把积木拿起来。”
- “小朋友把积木收进篮子。”
- “整理完成了，可以停下来。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “哪一个是篮子？”
- “小朋友拿起了什么？”
- “积木收到哪里了？”
- “哪个画面表示完成？”
If Amara only points, expand it: “对，积木收进篮子里了。”
Today's Original Mini Story
A large block is on the floor.
A child bends down and picks it up.
The block goes back into the basket.
The child stops and says, “All done.”
Putting away one thing is already helpful.
Retelling and label reading are not required.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Model:

Say one short chunk, then wait. A look, point, action, or partial word is enough; a full sentence is not required.
3. Early Math: One Basket, Two Books, Three Blocks
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Use only the bottom row:
- Touch the one basket under 1 once:
one basket. - Touch the two books under 2 one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the three blocks under 3 one at a time:
one, two, three.
Use one number word for one complete object. Do not count pages, basket weaves, or block faces, and do not test numeral recognition.
4. Movement: Pick Up, Put Away, All Done
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move away from the screen and use empty-hand actions:
- Stand steadily, bend the knees or make a small squat, and pretend to lift with both hands:
Pick up. - Move both hands forwards and gently pretend to place something down:
Put away. - Rest both hands by the body or clap once:
All done.
The adult models once. Choosing one action is enough; movement form does not need correction.
Movement and Object Safety
Clear the walking path and stay close enough to prevent a fall. Do not ask Amara to lift anything heavy, sharp, broken, hot, or small enough to be a choking hazard; an adult handles those items. She may use only a hand gesture if she does not want to squat.
5. Everyday Connection: Put Away One Thing
During a normal tidy-up moment, invite one real step:
- Return one familiar book to its fixed, low shelf; or
- Put one safe, large toy into its usual basket.
The adult can say, Pick it up. Put it away. All done. After this one item, Amara may stop and the adult finishes the rest.
Do not dump items out to create practice, require repeated tidying, or rate neatness, speed, or completeness. The goal is understanding the sequence and feeling able to participate.
6. Life Skill: Ask for Help or Finish
Time: 3–5 minutes.
If an item is difficult to handle or Amara does not want to continue, model:
Help, please./ “请帮忙。”All done./ “完成了。”- After one step, stop the hands and look towards the adult.
Asking for help, completing one step, or clearly signalling an ending are all useful life skills.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天看到了玩具、书，还是篮子？”
- “积木收到哪里了？”
Pick up or put away?- “今天帮忙收好了哪一件东西？”
