Garden Friends
Today we meet a butterfly, bee, and ladybug. We notice flying and landing, then practise looking with our eyes while keeping our hands away.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 4 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, copying a flying movement, making a sound, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. The picture builds language and safe observation habits; do not test reading or require her to approach a real insect.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Identify the butterfly, bee, and ladybug along the top. Notice the butterfly flying, bee landing on a flower, and child looking at a ladybug without touching in the middle. Finish by counting one butterfly, two bees, and three ladybugs along the bottom. Reading is not required.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 蝴蝶, 蜜蜂, 瓢虫, 飞, 停落, and 看.
- English: meet
butterfly,bee,ladybug,fly,land, andlook. - Nature: notice three garden visitors and build the boundary “look, do not catch or touch”.
- Early math: count the one butterfly, two bees, and three ladybugs pictured at the bottom.
- Movement and life skills: copy flying, landing, and calm looking, then complete a handwashing step after outdoor time.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A clear place to stretch both arms safely.
No insect models, nets, jars, or other teaching objects are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Begin with the three large visitors along the top:
- “蝴蝶有宽宽的翅膀。”
- “蜜蜂身体上有黄黑条纹。”
- “瓢虫是红色的，背上有黑点。”
Then notice the middle row:
- “蝴蝶飞在粉色花朵上方。”
- “蜜蜂停落在白色花朵上。”
- “小朋友把手收好，只用眼睛看叶子上的瓢虫。”
Choose only one or two prompts:
- “你先看到了谁？”
- “谁在飞？”
- “谁停在花上？”
- “小朋友的手有没有碰瓢虫？”
If Amara only makes a buzzing sound, expand it: “你听起来像一只蜜蜂。”
Today's Original Mini Story
A butterfly visits the garden and floats over a flower.
A bee slowly lands on another flower and continues its work.
A little ladybug rests on a leaf.
A child stops at a safe distance, keeps both hands away, and looks quietly.
The visitors are undisturbed, and the child walks on safely.
There is no need to remember insect features. Pointing, looking, or copying flight is enough.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Butterfly and ladybug are long words. A partial word, sound, or point is a successful response.
3. Early Math: Count the Garden Visitors
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Only the counted insects appear in the bottom row:
- Touch the one butterfly and say
one butterfly. - Touch the two bees one at a time and say
one, two. - Touch the three ladybugs one at a time and say
one, two, three.
Touch each insect once. If Amara touches one twice, slow down and model the path without saying she counted “wrong”.
4. Movement: Fly, Land, Look
Time: 3–8 minutes.
Choose two or three actions:
Fly: open both arms gently and walk a few slow steps.Land: make the steps slower, then stop with both feet steady.Look: keep hands behind the back or near the chest, leave space, and look calmly.- Stop on the adult's

Insect and Movement Safety
During indoor imitation, do not run or swing arms into another person. Outdoors, only observe insects: do not chase, catch, touch, or feed them. The adult remains responsible for the setting and any known allergy or sting risk. Leave immediately if there is a hive, swarm, or concerning insect activity. If a sting or unusual reaction occurs, the adult follows the family's established first-aid and medical plan.
5. Outdoor Observation
Try one 3–8 minute observation during normal outdoor time:
- The adult checks the area first: “那里有一只小虫，我们站在这里看。”
- Notice whether it is flying, landing, or crawling.
- If there are no insects, watch a bird or moving leaf and still practise
look. - If Amara moves too close, gently block and say: “只看，不碰。”
It is completely fine not to find a butterfly, bee, or ladybug. Never search in a way that disturbs an insect just to complete the lesson.
6. Life Skill: After Looking
Time: 3–5 minutes.
After outdoor time, invite one or two steps:
- Walk to the handwashing area.
- Place hands under the water.
- Rub, rinse, and dry both hands.
- Return the A4 teaching picture to its usual place.
Say:
- “观察结束啦，小手洗一洗。”
Wash hands.Put the picture away.
