August Discovery Party
Today we close August with three friendly review choices: say a word, make a match, or do a movement. We use point, count, and do, then count one house, two shoes, and three stars.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 4 months old. Keep each guided activity to 3–8 minutes and stop earlier when interest fades. Looking, pointing, moving, choosing, or saying one word all count as meaningful responses. Choose only two or three short review moments; this is a celebration of discovery, not a reading, memory, or performance test.

How to use it
Use only this A4 picture, printed or displayed full-screen. Let Amara choose WORDS 说词语, MATCH 配一配, or MOVE 做动作. Follow one middle action—POINT 指一指, COUNT 数一数, or DO 做一做—and stop after two or three enjoyable prompts. Count only the bottom row. Reading every label is not required.
Goals
- Chinese: understand 说词语, 配一配, 做动作 and 指一指, 数一数, 做一做.
- English: meet and respond to
words,match,move,point,count, anddo. - Review: reconnect with two or three familiar August ideas without needing to remember everything.
- Early math: touch and count exactly 1 house, 2 shoes, and 3 stars along the bottom.
- Movement and life skills: choose a review activity, communicate “again” or “finished”, and end while still relaxed.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- A clear, dry place if Amara chooses a movement.
No flashcards, counters, toys, party decorations, or other lesson objects are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Describe the top row:
- “词语站里有苹果、鸭子和汽车，可以选一个说。”
- “配对站里，彩色小猫和小猫影子配在一起。”
- “动作站里，小朋友站稳，举起双手。”
Then look at the middle row:
- “可以
POINT，指一指。” - “可以
COUNT，数一数。” - “也可以
DO，做一做。”
Ask only: “你想先选哪一个？” A look, point, gesture, or word is a complete choice.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Do not require translation or full repetition.
3. Early Math: Count the Bottom Row
Time: 2–4 minutes.
Count only the bottom quantity cards:
- Touch the 1 house once:
one house. - Touch the 2 shoes one at a time:
one, two. - Touch the 3 stars one at a time:
one, two, three.
The middle card shows two individual shoes; today the cardinal count is two shoes, not two pairs. Do not count windows, laces, points on the stars, or the printed numerals themselves.
4. Choose Only Two or Three Review Moments
Time: 3–8 minutes in total.
Follow Amara's interests and choose from these poster-based prompts:
- Words: point to the speech bubble and choose only one—
apple,duck, orcar. - Match: trace from the coloured cat to the dark cat silhouette.
- Move: choose one familiar August action, such as
open,close,grow, orstop, and do it together once.
One point, word, sound, or action completes a prompt. There is no need to revisit every topic or ask what she remembers.
5. Movement: Point, Count, Do
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move away from the screen:
Point: point gently towards one station.Count: tap the air one, two, or three times.Do: open the arms while keeping both feet stable.- Let Amara lead one safe action for the adult to copy.
Movement and Screen Safety
Use a clear, non-slip area. Keep both feet stable for arm movements and take only a few controlled steps. Do not run towards a screen or furniture. Stop if Amara moves away, says no, or looks tired.
6. Everyday Observation and Life Skills
Notice how Amara participates:
- Does she choose a word, a match, or a movement?
- Does she prefer to watch before joining?
- Can she communicate
againorfinishedthrough a word, gesture, or moving away?
Respecting “finished” is part of the review. End by closing the picture or returning the printed page to its usual place together.
Bedtime Recall
- “今天先选了说词语、配一配，还是做动作？”
- “底部有几只鞋？”

Share an observation instead of testing: “I noticed you enjoyed matching the cat.”
