Beats in Words
Today we hear the natural beats in complete English words: sun has one beat, apple has two, and banana has three. The adult models; Amara may simply listen.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Listening, looking, pointing, tapping once, swaying freely, pausing, or declining all count. Word beats are never used as a pronunciation or language test.

Goals
- Chinese: understand 听一听, 成人示范, and 孩子选择.
- English: hear
sun,apple, andbananaas complete words with natural rhythm. - Early maths: loosely connect 1, 2, and 3 with one, two, or three adult-modelled taps.
- Movement: if desired, tap an open hand gently on one's own knee.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture and English audio.
- No drum, stick, hard tapping object, or real food is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point to the sun and say “一拍,” the apple and say “两拍,” and the banana and say “三拍.” This is an adult demonstration of English word rhythm, not something Amara must explain or copy.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Transcript: English time. Listen, look, or point. Sun. One beat. Apple. Two beats. Banana. Three beats. Tap with an open hand if you want. Sun. Apple. Banana. All done.
Listen through once. If interest remains, the adult may model each word once without asking Amara to synchronise.
3. Early Maths: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom row: one sun, two apples, and three bananas. The picture quantities and word beats are parallel experiences today; abstract equivalence is not expected.
4. Movement and Everyday Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Tap your own thigh lightly with an open hand at a slow pace. Amara may tap her own knee, watch, or remain still. Never move her hand for her.
Hearing and Movement Safety
Do not use drumsticks, cutlery, or hard objects, and do not pursue loudness, speed, or synchrony. Say each whole word naturally rather than turning banana into spelling or pronunciation correction.
Bedtime Recall
- Naturally say one word once.
- “Would you like sun, apple, or banana?”
- If there is no choice, say, “English time is all done.”
