How Animals Move
How Animals Move
Today we notice different pictured movements of a tortoise, rabbit, and fish.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, making one seated gesture, saying one word, pausing, or declining all count. She never needs to jump or run like an animal.

How to use it
Print on portrait A4 paper or show it full-screen. Use only the poster and audio. No animal toy or contact with a real animal is needed.
Goals
- Chinese: understand “走、跳、游、移动.”
- English: meet
walk, hop, andswim. - Science: notice that animals have different bodies and common ways of moving; one picture cannot show every behaviour.
- Early math: count one tortoise, two rabbits, and three fish.
- Movement: use only a small seated hand gesture.
Materials
- The A4 poster and audio only.
- No real animal or other object.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Say: “乌龟在走。兔子在跳。鱼在水里游。动物会用不同方式移动。”
Invite once: “你想看走、跳,还是游?” A single word is not required.

Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Animals move in different ways. A tortoise can walk. A rabbit can hop. A fish can swim. We only look at the pictures. One tortoise. Two rabbits. Three fish. You may listen, point, or stop.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
walk | 走 | Move two fingers slowly |
hop | 跳 | Lift one finger once |
swim | 游 | Sway one hand once |
Amara does not need to repeat words or copy every action.
3. Early Math: Animals
- Under 1, touch the one complete tortoise.
- Under 2, touch the two complete rabbits.
- Under 3, touch the three complete fish.
Do not count grass, bubbles, fins, or upper animals.
4. Seated Movement
Keep hands empty. Model one tiny hand movement for walk, hop, or swim. Amara may choose one, watch, or decline; no standing jump or chase is involved.
5. Science and Animal Safety
“Can walk, hop, or swim” describes common abilities, not what every individual does at every moment. Species, age, health, and surroundings affect movement.
Pictures Only
Do not approach, chase, touch, feed, or copy a real animal, and do not go near water. An adult decides safe distance around animals.
Bedtime Recall
- “你想再看乌龟、兔子,还是鱼?”
Tortoise, rabbit, or fish?
