Same First Sound
Today we listen to three complete English word pairs: ball–bear, moon–milk, and sun–sock. Each pair begins alike, but we do not introduce letters or phonics.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Listening, looking at one pair, pointing to a picture, saying one complete word, pausing, or declining all count. She never needs to identify an isolated sound or imitate pronunciation.

Goals
- Chinese: understand 听一听, 整个词, and 开头相像.
- English: hear
ball–bear,moon–milk, andsun–sockas complete words. - Early maths: count one ball, two moons, and three suns.
- Auditory attention: briefly notice a similar beginning without phoneme identification.
Materials
- Only the A4 teaching picture and English audio.
- No letter cards, phonics book, mouth mirror, or real objects are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Name the pictures objectively: “球和熊、月亮和牛奶、太阳和袜子.” Then say, “英语里每一对完整词的开头听起来有点像.” Do not ask which letter begins a word.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Transcript: English time. Listen, look, or point. Ball, bear. Moon, milk. Sun, sock. Ball and bear begin alike. Moon and milk begin alike. Sun and sock begin alike. All done.
Pause briefly between the two complete words and point to both pictures. Naming a picture in Chinese also counts.
3. Early Maths: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom row: one ball, two moons, and three suns. These are imaginative teaching pictures, not claims about how many moons or suns exist in the sky.
4. Movement and Everyday Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point to the first and second picture in one pair, then bring two open hands slightly closer to show “begin alike.” Eye movement alone is participation.
No Letter or Pronunciation Test
Do not show isolated letters, say letter names, request an initial sound, inspect mouth shape, or split words into phonemes. Natural listening to complete words is enough.
Bedtime Recall
- “Which picture pair did you like?”
- Naturally say one pair:
Moon, milk. - If Amara looks away, finish.
