Make a Line
Today we notice side-by-side and one-after-another arrangements without tracing or arranging objects.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, making one air gesture, one word, pausing, or declining all count. The adult demonstrates; the child does not have to line anything up.
A4 Teaching Picture
Goals
- Chinese: understand “一排、并排、一个接一个.”
- English: meet
line,side by side, andone after another. - Early math: see that horizontal and vertical arrangements can both form a line; count 1–3.
- Life skill: hear queue language while adults retain supervision.
Materials
- Only the A4 poster and English audio.
- No cars, leaves, stickers, or queue props are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Move a finger across the three cars: “汽车排成一排。” Move down the leaves: “竖着也可以是一排。” Then note, “孩子并排站着，大人在旁边。”
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Make a line. The cars are side by side. The leaves are one after another. Look along the line. You may point or rest.
Let an adult finger move with the phrases. Copying is optional.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes. Count only 1 car, 2 leaves, and 3 circles in the bottom row. Ignore wheels, children, and the examples above.
4. Movement & Life
Time: 3–5 minutes. While seated, the adult draws one slow horizontal and one vertical line in the air. In a real queue, name “this line” while the adult manages position and safety. Do not use the poster to test compliance.
Safety
Do not practise queues on roads, stairs, doorways, or in crowds, and never place the child out of the adult's sight. No straight-line walking, tracing, furniture moving, or small-toy arranging is required.
Bedtime
Move down the three leaves and say, “One after another.” No answer is needed.
