Copy a Simple Pattern

Today the adult shows complete ABAB patterns. The child notices repetition without guessing what comes next.

Today's Approach

Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the two posters and audio. Looking, pointing, making one soft tap, pausing, or declining all count. The pattern stays fully visible: no cover, gap, or prediction test.

Goals

  • Chinese: understand “规律、重复、红蓝红蓝、拍手轻拍拍手轻拍.”
  • English: meet pattern, red, blue, clap, and tap.
  • Early math: see a complete ABAB repeat and count 1–3 on the main poster.
  • Movement: optionally watch or join one gentle action pattern.

Materials

  • The two A4 posters and English audio.
  • No coloured objects, drumsticks, metronome, or other props are needed.

1. Chinese Picture Talk

Time: 5–8 minutes.

Point through the complete row: “红、蓝、红、蓝。” Then name the complete leaf-ball row. Pause only after the whole sequence. Never hide a card or ask what should come next.

2. English Time

Time: 3–5 minutes.

English time. Listen, look, or point. Copy a simple pattern. Red, blue, red, blue. Clap, tap, clap, tap. The whole pattern is here. You may watch or join.

Playing the audio is sufficient. Repetition and synchrony are not requested.

3. Math 1 / 2 / 3

Time: 3–5 minutes. Count only 1 red circle, 2 blue squares, and 3 green leaves in the main poster's bottom row. Ignore repeated objects above.

4. Movement & Life

Time: 3–5 minutes. Seated and empty-handed, the adult demonstrates once: clap, soft knee tap, clap, soft knee tap. Amara may watch, join one beat, or decline. Daily routines may be described as repeating order without demanding mechanical compliance.

Movement & Listening Safety

Tap knees softly with empty hands; use no sticks or hard objects. Keep the sound quiet and do not seek speed, accuracy, or synchrony. Stop if Amara covers her ears, turns away, or says no. Never cover a picture and ask for the missing item.

Bedtime

Read once, quietly: “Red, blue, red, blue.” Finish without a question.
