Day and Night
Day and Night
Today we compare day and night pictures while respecting different families, places, seasons, and work patterns.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking at either picture, pointing, saying one word, pausing, or declining all count. This is not a routine quiz.

How to use it
Print on portrait A4 paper or show it full-screen. Use only the poster and audio. There is no need to stay awake, go outdoors, or change Amara's routine.
Goals
- Chinese: meet “白天、夜晚、亮、暗、不同.”
- English: meet
day, night, anddifferent. - Science: know that Earth's rotation brings day and night to a place; their length changes with location and season.
- Early math: count one sun, two clouds, and three stars.
- Daily life: know that sleep, work, care, and activity times differ across families.
Materials
- The A4 poster and audio only.
- No other object.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Say: “这里是白天的天空。这里是夜晚的天空。不同家庭在不同时间可能做不同事情。”
Ask: “你想先看白天,还是夜晚?” Do not ask what everyone “must” do at night.
2. English Time

Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Day. Night. Families can do different things at different times. There is no one schedule for every family. One sun. Two clouds. Three stars. You may listen, point, or stop.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
day | 白天 | Point to day |
night | 夜晚 | Point to night |
different | 不同 | Look at any family scene |
No repetition or correction is needed.
3. Early Math: Sky Pictures
- Under 1, touch the one complete sun.
- Under 2, touch the two complete clouds.
- Under 3, touch the three complete stars.
Count only the bottom strip, not upper stars, windows, or people.
4. Day-and-Night Gesture
Open one relaxed hand for “day,” then rest both hands for “night.” Amara may choose either or decline; the gesture does not mean she must be awake or asleep.
5. Science and Family Boundary
Day is not always sunny, and the moon or stars are not always visible at night. Sky appearance and day length vary with weather, place, and season.
No Universal Family Schedule
Do not say that everyone sleeps at night or works by day. Babies, shift workers, carers, and families across cultures may have different routines. Follow this family's health and safety needs.
Bedtime Recall
- “你想再看白天、夜晚,还是不同家庭?”
Day, night, or different families?
