Make a Circle
Today we notice arrangements around an open middle without tracing or spinning.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 6 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, making one rounded gesture, pausing, or declining all count. The adult demonstrates; no child or object must form a circle.
A4 Teaching Picture
Goals
- Chinese: understand “围成一圈、围着、中间空着.”
- English: meet
circle,around, andopen middle. - Early math: notice circular arrangements and count the bottom row from 1 to 3.
- Movement: make one optional rounded gesture while seated.
Materials
- Only the A4 poster and English audio.
- No leaves, cushions, ropes, or floor markers are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Move slowly around the leaves: “叶片围着中间，中间空着。” Then note that cushions and people can also be shown around a middle. There is no need to judge whether a circle is perfect.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Make a circle. Around. Open middle. The leaves go around the empty middle. You may look, point, or rest.
The adult finger travels around the outside. Repetition is unnecessary.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes. Count only 1 round cushion, 2 cushions, and 3 leaves in the bottom row. Ignore people, leaves, and rugs above.
4. Movement & Life
Time: 3–5 minutes. While seated, the adult rounds both arms gently in front of the body. Amara may copy, watch, or remain still. Name circular arrangements in daily life without demanding a search for circles.
Movement Safety
Do not hold hands and spin, turn quickly, step over loops, or move furniture. Avoid dizziness, collision, and tripping. The group picture does not require a real standing-circle activity.
Bedtime
Trace around the leaf picture and say, “Around the open middle.” Listening is enough.
