Inside, Outside, Beside
Inside, Outside, Beside
Today one clear poster makes three spatial words visible. Nothing is hidden, and the child is never asked to guess a position.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 7 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, making one movement, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. The adult describes rather than tests or corrects.
A4 Teaching Picture

Goals
- Chinese: meet “里面、外面、旁边” in fully visible pictures.
- English: hear
inside, outside, andbeside. - Early math: count only the separated 1/2/3 strip.
- Movement: optionally follow the adult's finger down the poster.
Materials
- The A4 poster and today's English audio.
- No box, ball, hiding game, or other object is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Point slowly and say, “小熊在盒子里面。球在盒子外面。靠垫在盒子旁边。” Pause after each sentence. Echo one word Amara notices, but do not ask where something is or cover a picture for her to guess.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Inside. Outside. Beside. The teddy is inside the box. The ball is outside the box. The cushion is beside the box. You may look, point, stay quiet, or stop.
Playing it once is enough. Repetition and an answer are not requested.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom strip: 1 book, 2 cups, and 3 cushions. If Amara looks away, stop at the current compartment without prompting or correction.
4. Movement & Life
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move a finger down the three cards, then gesture gently in front of your own body for “inside, outside, beside.” Amara may watch, point to one card, copy one gesture, or decline. Do not invite her to climb into a box or turn a spatial word into a compliance command.
Spatial and Body Safety
The illustrated box is for picture talk only. Real chests and cabinets can trap, pinch, or tip, so there is no “hide inside” game. Stop immediately when Amara says no or turns away.
Bedtime
Time: 3 minutes. Say quietly, “Inside, outside, beside—all visible.” End without a question.
