Caring for My Body Each Day
Caring for My Body Each Day
Today two A4 posters introduce drinking, toileting, food, rest, and comfort. Needs are not evidence of good behaviour; caregivers respond promptly and calmly.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 7 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, gesturing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining are valid. Do not moralise eating or sleep, or force food, toileting, sleep, cuddles, or touch.

Goals
- Chinese: understand that “我口渴、要如厕、疼、想休息、需要陪伴” may all be communicated.
- English: meet
drink, toilet, rest, comfort, andhelp now. - Body care: know that basic needs recur and never require earned access.
- Relationship: comfort may mean staying nearby and does not assume a cuddle or touch.
Materials
- Only the two A4 posters above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- The English audio below.
- No food, drink, medicine, toy, or reward item, and never delay a real need for the activity.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–8 minutes.
On the main poster, say, “身体会需要喝水。”“需要如厕。”“需要食物和休息。”“难过时也可以需要安慰。” Avoid “good children finish their food” or “brave children do not cry.”
On the extension poster, say, “口渴、如厕、疼痛和需要安慰,都可以马上告诉大人。” Follow the picture Amara selects; she does not need to view every card.
2. English Time

3. Early Math: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the main poster's bottom strip: 1 cup, 2 pillows, and 3 apples. Do not include food on the plate, people, or the extension poster.
4. Communication and Co-Regulation
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point to the extension poster and offer short language: “要水。”“要厕所。”“这里疼。”“陪着我。” Amara may use gaze, pointing, movement, one word, crying, approaching, or moving away. Respond first; never require a complete sentence.
5. Development, Care, and Medical Boundary
Time: 3–5 minutes.
A young child's eating, sleep, and toileting vary with development, health, context, and daily state. This activity supports communication and response; it does not prescribe intake, sleep duration, toilet training, or pain treatment.
Basic Needs Receive an Immediate Response
Thirst, toileting, pain, breathing difficulty, clear discomfort, and safety requests are not waiting practice. Do not use food or cuddles as rewards, force feeding, shame, or substitute a poster for medical assessment. A caregiver seeks a qualified professional for health concerns.
Bedtime Recall
- “你想看喝水、休息,还是现在停?”
