Cross with a Grown-up
Today two A4 posters establish one firm rule: a toddler never crosses alone and travels with a trusted grown-up. Stopping, checking, deciding, and leading all belong to the adult.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 7 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, gesturing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining are valid. Use only posters and audio; never rehearse beside a real road, car park, or driveway.

Goals

- Relationship: near a road or during a crossing, the adult must use reliable close protection such as hand-holding, carrying, a pushchair, or another method suited to the setting, while respecting touch preferences whenever safety permits.

- No toy traffic light, car, road sign, or other object, and no pretend road-crossing game.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–8 minutes.
For the main sequence, say, “孩子和大人一起停在路边里面。”“大人看车辆、确认能不能走。”“大人带着孩子一起通过。” Notice that every frame includes a grown-up.
On the extension poster, say, “和我等。我来确认。我们一起过。孩子绝不独自过街。” Do not require memorised steps or ask which direction the toddler should check first.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

English time. Listen, look, or point. A child never crosses a road alone. We stop and wait with a trusted grown-up. The grown-up checks traffic and chooses when to cross. We cross together. The grown-up handles the safety steps. One signal. Two crossing signs. Three cars.

Do not ask Amara to recite traffic rules or treat one correct point as real-world crossing competence.
3. Early Math: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the main poster's bottom strip: 1 pedestrian signal, 2 crossing signs, and 3 cars. Do not count the vehicles, people, or zebra stripes above.
4. Poster Gesture: Adult Responsibility
Time: 3–5 minutes.
While safely seated indoors, the adult can model three gestures: an open stop hand, eyes looking at the poster, and two hands side by side for together. Amara does not stand up to rehearse crossing or need to hold hands on demand.
5. Road-Safety Boundary
Time: 3–5 minutes.
A two-year-old does not have the attention, impulse control, distance judgement, or speed judgement to carry road-crossing responsibility. Saying a rule never means independent safety competence. The adult maintains close supervision and protects according to the real setting.
Do Not Place Left-Right Responsibility on a Toddler
Amara never crosses a road, car park, or driveway alone. The adult stops, observes every direction, judges vehicles and signals, chooses the route, and leads with reliable close protection such as hand-holding, carrying, a pushchair, or another method suited to the setting. In immediate danger, the adult may intervene gently and firmly while explaining; refusal of touch can never mean allowing free movement into a roadway. Poster learning never replaces supervision or authorises real-world practice.
