Number Relationships Review
Number Relationships Review
Today two A4 posters revisit more, fewer, and the same. The purpose is shared noticing, not answering questions or proving counting skill.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 7 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, gesturing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. Describe the pictures without quizzing, correcting, scoring, or exchanging rewards for a response.

Goals
- Chinese: understand “这一组更多、这一组更少、两边一样多.”
- English: meet
more, fewer, andthe samein complete contexts. - Early math: compare two clearly separated groups and count 1, 2, and 3 on the main poster.
- Relationship: let Amara attend to one group without turning comparison into a test.
Materials
- Only the two A4 posters above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- The English audio below.
- No apples, blocks, baskets, or other objects, and no improvised household quiz.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–8 minutes.
On the main poster, point to the apple groups and say, “这边更多,这边更少。” Point to the yellow blocks and say, “两边一样多。” Amara may watch one side, point, say “多,” or stay quiet.
If she turns to the extension poster, follow her attention: “左边篮子里的小船更多,右边更少。”“左边 1 只梨更少,右边 3 只梨更多。”“两盘饼干一样多。” Model each relationship once.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. More, fewer, and the same. This basket has more apples. This basket has fewer apples. These two groups are the same. One cup. Two leaves. Three balls. You may look, point, stay quiet, or stop.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
more | 更多 | Look towards the larger group or do nothing |
fewer | 更少 | Point to the smaller group |
the same | 一样多 | Look across both groups, open hands, or stay quiet |
stop | 停止 | Look away, stand up, or say no |
Play it once. Repetition of the comparison words is not required.
3. Early Math: 1, 2, 3 on the Main Poster
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the independent bottom strip: 1 cup, 2 leaves, and 3 balls. Point to one whole object for each number. Do not include objects from the concept cards or extension poster.
4. Movement and Everyday Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
The adult can use two open hands as groups: make one wider for “more,” one narrower for “fewer,” and hold both equally for “the same.” Amara may copy, watch, or stop. Her gesture does not need to be precise.
5. Developmental and Math Boundary
Time: 3–5 minutes.
At this age, visually noticing a clearly larger group comes before formal explanation. Do not keep rearranging objects to create trick questions or say that an answer is wrong. If the difference is hard to see, simply describe it.
No Test or Reward
Do not require one-by-one counting before comparison. Do not trade stickers, food, applause, or screens for an answer, or compare her speed with anyone else's. Number relationships are shared observation, not obedience practice.
Bedtime Recall
- “你想再看苹果,还是现在结束?”
- Say, “More, fewer, and the same are all visible,” once, then accept any response.
