An AAB Pattern

Today the adult shows a complete AAB pattern: two of the same, then one different. Every position remains visible, so there is no prediction task.

Today's Approach

Amara is about 2 years and 7 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the two posters and audio. Looking, pointing, making one soft tap, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. Patterns stay complete: no cover, gap, or correction.

Goals

  • Chinese: meet “规律、两拍一拍、完整重复.”
  • English: hear A A B pattern, red, blue, clap, and tap.
  • Early math: see complete AAB, AAB repeats and count 1–3 on the main poster.
  • Movement: optionally watch or join one gentle action pattern.

Materials

  • The two A4 posters and today's English audio.
  • No drum, stick, coloured object, metronome, or other prop is needed.

1. Chinese Picture Talk

Time: 5–8 minutes.

Point through the whole first row: “红、红、蓝；红、红、蓝。” Then read the whole second row: “圆、圆、方；圆、圆、方。” Pause only after a complete row. Never cover a position or ask what comes next.

2. English Time

Time: 3–5 minutes.

Listening or pressing pause both count; synchrony is not requested.

3. Math 1 / 2 / 3

Time: 3–5 minutes.

Count only the main poster's bottom 1 red circle, 2 blue squares, and 3 green leaves. Do not count the repeating objects above. The extension poster has no counting strip.

4. Movement & Listening Boundaries

Time: 3–5 minutes.

Seated and empty-handed, demonstrate the full pattern softly: clap, clap, tap your own knee; clap, clap, tap your own knee. Amara may watch, join one action, stay quiet, or stop. The movement never touches her body.

Complete and Quiet

Tap only your own knee with an empty hand. Use no hard object and seek no speed, volume, accuracy, or synchrony. Stop if Amara covers her ears, turns away, or says no. Never cover a picture, leave a gap, or ask for the next item.

Bedtime

Time: 3 minutes. Say once, quietly, “Red, red, blue; red, red, blue.” Finish the pattern and ask no question.
