Through, Around, and Between
Through, Around, and Between
Today we only view paths and positions in a picture while meeting “through,” “around,” and “between.” No body movement or performance is needed.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 8 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. The adult describes complete pictures without testing, correction, scoring, rewards, forced retelling, performance, or touch.
A4 Teaching Picture

Goals
- Chinese: meet “穿过、绕过、在两者之间.”
- English: hear
through, around, andbetween. - Early math: notice a path or position relative to pictured landmarks.
- Movement: looking is enough; no route-walking or imitation is requested.
Materials
The A4 poster and today's English audio. No arch, obstacle course, floor line, or moved furniture is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Describe the three still pictures in Chinese: “小路穿过拱门。小路绕过树。小兔在两张长椅之间。” Move a finger above each printed path only once. The words describe pictured relations; Amara does not prove them with her body.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. One path goes through the arch. One path goes around the tree. The rabbit is between two benches. These words describe the picture. No movement is needed. One little arch. Two little trees. Three little rabbits. You may look, point, stay quiet, or stop.
Listening, pausing, or declining all count. Repetition, retelling, and answers are not requested.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom strip: 1 little arch, 2 little trees, and 3 little rabbits. The two benches above belong to the “between” scene and are not part of the counting strip.
4. Gentle Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
The adult may draw one short curve in the air while saying “around,” then rest the hand. Amara may watch, not join, point to any path, say one word, or finish. She need not stand up.
Development and Boundaries
Do not ask Amara to crawl through furniture, circle obstacles, or stand between objects. Arrows show pictured routes only; they are not action commands, and the three words are not checked.
Bedtime
Time: 3 minutes. Say softly, “Through, around, and between. They are all in the picture.” Then finish.
