The Same Amount with Different Spacing
Today the adult describes pairs of pictures with the same amount but different spacing. Conservation reasoning is not expected at this age, and there is no visual trap.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 8 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. The adult describes complete pictures without testing, correction, scoring, rewards, forced retelling, performance, or touch.

Materials
The A4 poster and today's English audio. No movable counters, line-up, cover, or comparison cards are needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
First describe the two buttons in Chinese: “这里两只靠得近，那里两只分得开；两边都清楚画着两只。” Then describe the three leaves: “这里三片聚在一起，那里三片分散；两边都清楚画着三片。” State what is visible; do not ask which side has more.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Two buttons stay two when they are close or far apart. Three leaves stay three when they are gathered or spread out. Everything is visible. There is no trick and no answer to give. One purple button. Two orange leaves. Three blue dots. You may look, point, stay quiet, or stop.
Listening, pausing, or declining all count. Repetition, retelling, and answers are not requested.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom strip: 1 purple button, 2 orange leaves, and 3 blue dots. Do not add the comparison groups above to the bottom count.
4. Gentle Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Rest a finger above each pair of outlined groups and say “two” or “three” once for each, then lower the hand. Amara may view one group or both, point anywhere, stay quiet, or stop.
Development and Boundaries
Classic conservation judgments usually develop later than this age. Do not spread pictures and ask whether there are more, create conflict, prompt a changed answer, correct, or praise being “not tricked.”
Bedtime
Time: 3 minutes. Say softly, “Close or spread out, every picture stays visible.” Do not ask how many.
