Safety if Separated in a Public Place
Safety if Separated in a Public Place
Today two A4 posters introduce separation safety through pictures only. Prevention, continuous supervision, and searching belong to adults. Amara does not rehearse alone in a shop, station, or street.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 8 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, one word, quiet, pausing, or declining are valid. Do not quiz, correct, score, rank, reward, force repetition or performance, or require eye contact or touch.

Goals
- Chinese: meet “安全、看得见、留在附近、叫照护者、工作人员.”
- English: meet
safe and visible, stay nearby, call, worker, andgrown-up is responsible. - Safety: if accidentally separated, a young child may remain in a nearby safe, visible place and call for the caregiver, or approach a clearly identified staffed position.
- Adult responsibility: do not expect the child to find a route, chase someone, exit, or leave with an unknown person. Adults prevent separation and conduct the search.
Materials
- Only the two A4 posters above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- The English audio below.
- Never deliberately hide in a real public place as a test, and do not ask Amara to practise finding a service desk or home alone.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–8 minutes.
Point to the main poster: “如果意外看不到照护者,幼儿可以尽量留在安全、大家看得到的附近位置,叫照护者的名字或哭出来。”“信息台、收银台或服务柜台里明确在工作的人员可以帮忙。”
Amara does not need to memorise steps or identify every uniform. Being quiet, crying, or not being able to say a name does not mean she did anything wrong.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. In a public place, the grown-up prevents separation and stays responsible. If a young child becomes separated, the child may stay in a safe, visible place and call or cry out for the caregiver. A clearly identified worker at an information desk, checkout, or service counter can help. The child does not need to find a route or leave with an unknown person. One information sign. Two workers. Three bright meeting circles.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
safe and visible | 安全、看得见 | Watch a bright open place |
stay nearby | 留在附近 | Point to the stay circle or stay quiet |
call | 呼叫 | Watch a speech bubble, cry, or stay silent |
worker | 工作人员 | Watch a worker behind a staffed counter |
grown-up is responsible | 大人负责 | Watch the adult-action panel |
Do not require loud practice of a name, phone number, or help sentence. Language skill is not a safety prerequisite.
3. Early Math: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the main poster's separate bottom strip: 1 information sign, 2 staffed-counter workers, and 3 bright meeting circles. Do not count people, counters, or signs above.
4. Safe Places and Helpers
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point and explain: “安全位置要远离车道、站台边缘、楼梯口和移动设备。”“若所在位置有即时危险,只移动到最近的安全、可见位置或明确工作柜台。”
A worker means an adult clearly working at an information desk, checkout, service counter, or on-site security post. Do not make a toddler judge whether an unfamiliar person is trustworthy.
5. Adult Search and Developmental Boundary
Time: 3–5 minutes.
A two-year-old may panic, move, become silent, or follow whoever is visible and cannot reliably carry out a multi-step plan. Adults use close supervision, an age-appropriate stroller, or another context-appropriate prevention method and know the venue's help channels.
Separation Is Never the Child's Fault
When separation is noticed, the caregiver immediately returns to the last confirmed place, alerts venue staff and security, and contacts local emergency services when risk requires it. Do not scold, interrogate, or expect the child to navigate. Do not let the child leave the venue with an unknown adult.
Bedtime Recall
