See-Through and Not See-Through
See-Through and Not See-Through
Today one A4 poster explores whether light passes through different materials. Seeing clearly, seeing a blur, or not seeing through depends on material, thickness, and viewing conditions, not a permanent label for every object of one kind.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 8 months old. Keep each activity to 3–8 minutes. Looking, pointing, one word, quiet, pausing, or declining are valid. Do not quiz, correct, score, rank, reward, force repetition or performance, or require eye contact or touch.

Goals
- Chinese: meet “看得清、看得模糊、挡住光、材料、厚度.”
- English: meet
see through, some light, block light, material, andthickness. - Science: understand that light transmission is affected by material, thickness, and other conditions.
- Safety: an adult stores and handles glass, plastic bags, and unknown materials.
Materials
- Only the A4 poster above, printed or displayed full-screen.
- The English audio below.
- No glass, clear bag, film, mirror, or other object, and no eye-covering, bag, or light-transmission test.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 3–8 minutes.
Describe the three panels: “很多光通过,看得比较清。”“一部分光通过,看得比较模糊。”“光被挡住,看不穿。” Add, “材料和厚度会影响结果。”
Watching one panel, noticing light and dark, or not responding all count. Do not ask Amara to sort objects.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.

Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. Some materials let a lot of light through. Some let only part of the light through. Some block the light. What we can see through depends on the material and its thickness. A grown-up handles glass, plastic bags, and other hazards. We only look at pictures. One clear circle. Two cloudy squares. Three opaque blocks.
| English | 中文 | Possible response |
|---|---|---|
see through | 看得穿 | Watch the clear panel |
some light | 一部分光 | Watch the blurred panel |
block light | 挡住光 | Watch the dark panel |
material | 材料 | Point to any material picture |
thickness | 厚度 | Watch the thin-and-thick diagram or stay quiet |
Repetition is not required. Stop the audio when Amara stops.
3. Early Math: 1, 2, 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the separate bottom strip: 1 clear circle, 2 cloudy squares, and 3 opaque blocks. Do not count the light rays or material diagrams above.
4. Conditions Affect What We See
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Point to the thin-and-thick comparison: “同一种材料厚一点、薄一点,看起来也可能不同。” Add, “光线、表面和观察角度也会影响我们看见多少。”
Keep this as open description rather than asking for a rule about every glass or plastic item.
5. Materials and Developmental Boundary
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transparent, translucent, and opaque describe light transmission in particular conditions. Glass varies, and plastic varies. Looking clear does not tell a child that an object is safe, strong, or touchable.
Adults Handle Hazardous Materials
Do not let Amara handle glass, lenses, shards, plastic bags, or film. Never put a bag over or near the face and do not perform an eye-covering activity. Adults store these items, check damage, and prevent suffocation and cutting hazards.
Bedtime Recall
- “你想看清楚的一格,还是模糊的一格?”
- Say
Some materials let light through.once.
