Near and Far from the Same Landmark
Today one tree stays as the fixed landmark for “near” and “far.” The adult also remembers that distance words depend on a reference and viewpoint.
Today's Approach
Amara is about 2 years and 8 months old. Keep each part to 3–8 minutes and use only the poster and audio. Looking, pointing, saying one word, staying quiet, pausing, or declining all count. The adult describes complete pictures without testing, correction, scoring, rewards, forced retelling, performance, or touch.

Goals

- Development: adult context is enough; reference-frame explanations are not expected.
Materials
The A4 poster and today's English audio. No moved objects, near–far walking route, measuring, or room-landmark hunt is needed.
1. Chinese Picture Talk
Time: 5–8 minutes.
Point to the fixed tree and say in Chinese, “这棵树是我们共同看的地标。” Then describe, “橙色球离这棵树近；蓝色球离同一棵树远。” This description belongs to this picture and reference; another reference or viewpoint may change the words.
2. English Time
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Transcript:
English time. Listen, look, or point. The orange ball is near the tree. The blue ball is far from the same tree. Near and far depend on the landmark and viewpoint. We keep the tree fixed in this picture. One little tree. Two orange balls. Three blue balls. You may look, point, stay quiet, or stop.
Listening, pausing, or declining all count. Repetition, retelling, and answers are not requested.
3. Math 1 / 2 / 3
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Count only the bottom strip: 1 little tree, 2 orange balls, and 3 blue balls. The bottom strip practises 1–3 and is not used to compare distance.
4. Gentle Connection
Time: 3–5 minutes.
Move a finger a short pictured distance from the tree to the orange ball, then a longer pictured distance from the tree to the blue ball. Amara may watch either path, point to the tree, say “near” or “far,” stay quiet, or stop.
Development and Boundaries
Near and far are not permanent properties of an object. Name the reference; do not make Amara run, take a position, or prove anything, and do not mark her own-view description as wrong.
Bedtime
Time: 3 minutes. Say softly, “In this picture, we view near and far from the same tree.” Then finish.
